Empress Canyon

A fantastic abseiling/canyon combination, one of the Blue Mountains' best!

The first half of the day is abseiling, starting with a 5-metre-high cliff and building up to 30-metre-high cliffs during the morning.

After our famous lunch, it’s a scenic 20-minute walk to the start of the canyon. Wade into the creek that descends the narrow, slot-like canyon and within a few seconds you are jumping into a rock pool, the first of several jumps and swims. This canyon is an exciting affair with water jumps, exhilarating swims, water slides and fantastic scenery.

The final descent out of the canyon is one of the best waterfall abseils in the mountains. Clip into the rope, step back and follow the 30-metre waterfall down to the deep rock pool below. This is not just a brilliant waterfall abseil but also a fantastic photo opportunity.

Tim and Richard were terrific guides and trainers. They were patient and careful, super professional and clearly very experienced. On top of that they bring a real enthusiasm to the adventure. We were looked after based on individual needs, and the whole day was brilliant.

The morning training was an adventure in itself, abseiling overlooking the stunning Blue Mountains and Megalong Valley, and it was excellent preparation for the canyoning and waterfall abseil, which was a blast.

An amazing experience. Our guide and instructor Tim was great, patient, allowing us to do a couple of abseils off the 15-metre and 30-metre because of the smaller group. He was was very informative about the region, the landscape, wildlife, plant life and the history of the Blue Mountains. I came away from the experience feeling accomplished and informed about my entire experience. I will be back in January when she warms up for the wet canyon experience.Andy B
We had an amazing day – morning at the top of the Blue Mountains and afternoon at the bottom. Our guide Tim was the best. He instructed us in the abseiling and canyoning techniques and safety but made sure that we had fun. He was a patient guide even when my wife wouldn't jump into one of the pools, and didn't push her even though I told him to. The last abseil down the waterfall is extremely slippery but don't worry, you'll get down somehow.Floyd
